The modernist station with its folded concrete roof stands beyond a bare unlandscaped forecourt, with a Citroen 2CV parked alone on the open ground.
About this place
The present station, opened on 31 May 1964 to a design by Imre Farkas and Milan Matovic, standing north of the centre on the line the railway was moved to as the city grew. Its sawtooth roof recalls the rooflines of Pannonian houses. On 1 November 2024 the concrete canopy above its entrance collapsed, killing 16 people. This is a different building on a different site from the station of 1882, which stood where the Liman market is now.
