The new railway station stands behind its glazed front, the folded sawtooth roof carried on slender V shaped struts and a flat canopy running along the ground floor. A single deck bus waits at the kerb with a woman walking toward the entrance doors, and further along a group stands beside piled baggage with motorcycles parked at the wall. The forecourt is newly laid with a curved kerb and a bare planting bed in the foreground.
About this place
The present station, opened on 31 May 1964 to a design by Imre Farkas and Milan Matović, standing north of the centre on the line the railway was moved to as the city grew. Its sawtooth roof recalls the rooflines of Pannonian houses. On 1 November 2024 the concrete canopy above its entrance collapsed, killing 16 people. This is a different building on a different site from the station of 1882, which stood where the Liman market is now. The pin is the OpenStreetMap position of the station building.
