A city bus marked 53 waits at right angles to the railway while a passenger train occupies the level crossing on Rumenačka Street in Detelinara. The side of the train fills the right edge of the frame and passengers look out from the carriage, so the camera stood on or immediately beside it. Pedestrians are gathered around the crossing, with a low tiled-roof building behind the bus, and pipes, disturbed ground and newly erected or braced poles show infrastructure work along the road and the railway. This is a road and rail level crossing, with no platform. A crossing is independently recorded here, near today's Stadion Detelinara, on the branch of about 2.5 kilometres linking the new Novi Sad passenger station with the old marshalling yard and locomotive depot. The branch stayed in use after the 1964 reorganisation of the city's railway node, and the Rumenačka crossing was removed in April 2022.
About this place
A street running north-west out of the city towards the village of Rumenka, from which it takes its name. It formed part of the boundary between the growing interwar and postwar districts of Detelinara and Banatić, and it crossed the railway corridor on that side of the city at a level crossing. A crossing on the line between the passenger station and the old locomotive depot survived here until December 2021.
