Yugoslav Soldiers on a Village Lane With Whitewashed Trees
Four soldiers in long double-breasted greatcoats and soft peaked caps stand on a dirt lane between low cottages with thatched roofs, one wall lined by a whitewashed picket fence. Rows of young trees with whitewashed trunks flank the road on both sides, and one soldier raises a gloved hand near his cap while the others keep their hands in their coat pockets. The bare branches overhead and the long wool coats suggest a cold season.
