Onlookers Gather at the Danube Quay, Novi Sad, 1965
Seen from the upper deck of the steamer Felszabadulas, a crowd of local residents, including children with bicycles, gathers on the paved Danube quay in Novi Sad to watch the ship's arrival. Two uniformed crew members stand at the head of the gangplank that connects the vessel to the shore.
About this place
The Novi Sad bank of the Danube, the embankment walk between the bridges. It is where the town meets its river: steamers tied up along it, the ferry and later the pontoon crossing landed on it, and it is the vantage point for most photographs looking across to the Petrovaradin cliff. Today the embankment carries more than one name along its length, Beogradski kej and Kej zrtava racije among them, and this entry holds the general name for the whole walk.
