Boys Playing by the Danube, Petrovaradin Fortress Behind, 1965
Boys play a ball game on a dirt pitch in a riverside park in Novi Sad. Across the Danube behind them, a paddle steamer is moored below Petrovaradin Fortress, its wall lettered STERIJINO POZORJE, the name of the city's theatre festival. The source identifies the vessel as the steamer Felszabadulas.
About this place
The Novi Sad bank of the Danube, the embankment walk between the bridges. It is where the town meets its river: steamers tied up along it, the ferry and later the pontoon crossing landed on it, and it is the vantage point for most photographs looking across to the Petrovaradin cliff. Today the embankment carries more than one name along its length, Beogradski kej and Kej zrtava racije among them, and this entry holds the general name for the whole walk.
