The New Danube Quay Opposite Centrotextil, Novi Sad, 1965
Seen from the deck of the steamer Felszabadulas, a long line of local residents, men, women and children, stands along the top of a newly built stone embankment wall on the Danube in Novi Sad. Across the street behind them, a modern apartment block has a ground floor shop signed Centrotextil, with a car and a minibus parked at the curb.
About this place
The Novi Sad bank of the Danube, the embankment walk between the bridges. It is where the town meets its river: steamers tied up along it, the ferry and later the pontoon crossing landed on it, and it is the vantage point for most photographs looking across to the Petrovaradin cliff. Today the embankment carries more than one name along its length, Beogradski kej and Kej zrtava racije among them, and this entry holds the general name for the whole walk.
