Plan of the Danube Flotilla Border Battalion District
A coloured hand drawing of 1822 by C. Hohensinner mapping the territory of the Chaikist border battalion, the Danube flotilla militia. Its interest for this city is the middle of the sheet, where Novi Sad, Petrovaradin and Sremska Kamenica appear together on one survey. Novi Sad is drawn as a block plan in pink wash with its street grid legible, the fortress opposite as a red bastion trace with its bridgehead, and a pontoon bridge is hatched across the water between them. A line lettered as the boundary with the free city of Neusatz crosses the sheet, the city's own territorial limit rather than anything military. A key separates arable from meadow, treasury from communal forest, and marks vineyard, pasture, willow-grown islands and the ferry crossings.
