Three buses and their crews in the yard
Three single deck buses stand nose out on bare earth in a yard, their pale upper bodies and rounded roofs catching the light, with registration plates on the front bumpers and spare wheels set into the wings. Nine men are ranged along and between them, most in flat caps and working coats, a few in overcoats and collars, one seated on a wing and another leaning against a radiator. Bare trees rise behind, with a brick gable, a plank fence and a tall factory chimney beyond. Novi Sad's municipal bus service began on 9 November 1931 with a first fleet of three vehicles, built on Škoda chassis that the city senate resolved to buy in March of that year, with the bodies commissioned separately from local coachbuilders. A group of three buses is consistent with that fleet.
