Five-gulden state note, Vienna, 1866
Five gulden in the state notes of 7 July 1866, with the same promise as the one-gulden value, acceptance at every state office for payments the law does not require in coin. A woman with a lyre and a bearded old man writing at a tablet sit either side of the text among helmets and trophies, and a panel warns that forging state notes is punished with up to twenty years' hard imprisonment and even for life. A blue stamp struck across the middle, “UNGILTIG”, invalid, marks it cancelled.
