Boys at the Water's Edge, Novi Sad Quay, 1965
A uniformed ship's officer stands at the head of the gangway aboard the steamer Felszabadulas, looking out over the Danube quay in Novi Sad. Below him, boys sit and crouch at the edge of the stone embankment while men stand about on the open ground beyond, watching the moored vessel.
About this place
The Novi Sad bank of the Danube, the embankment walk between the bridges. It is where the town meets its river: steamers tied up along it, the ferry and later the pontoon crossing landed on it, and it is the vantage point for most photographs looking across to the Petrovaradin cliff. Today the embankment carries more than one name along its length, Beogradski kej and Kej zrtava racije among them, and this entry holds the general name for the whole walk.
