A dance band of six women and one man
Seven musicians pose outdoors on a paved terrace against a dark backdrop, all in embroidered folk dress: white shirts worked at the collar and cuffs, dark waistcoats, woven aprons and beaded headdresses. A man stands at the left with a large piano accordion and a woman holds a second accordion at the right. Two of the women sit at the front with round bodied fretted instruments of the banjo kind, one with her legs crossed and her instrument across her knee. Behind them a woman holds a saxophone, another stands at the back beside the neck of a double bass, and a third sits at a drum kit whose big bass drum fills the centre of the group with a cymbal on a stand above it. A second saxophone rests against the drum. The photograph is a postcard, and Cyrillic handwriting runs along all four of its margins.
