An allegorical sky of trumpeting angels and a diving eagle crowns a panoramic battle below, cavalry clashing amid fallen men near a village church, a supply wagon at the left. Thirteen numbered points key to a caption naming Prince Eugene, the Imperial and Turkish armies and their entrenchments, the Grand Vizier's tent, Belgrade, Salankemen and Carlowitz. About this place
The hill above Petrovaradin on the Fruska Gora side of the Danube, and the ground on which the Battle of Petrovaradin was fought on 5 August 1716. The Ottoman army under the Grand Vizier Silahdar Damat Ali Pasha camped here to besiege the fortress, and the hill carries his title: Vezirac is the Vizier's place. Prince Eugene of Savoy crossed from the fortress and broke the Ottoman line in a single morning. The Grand Vizier was mortally wounded in the fighting and died soon after, and the defeat ended the Ottoman advance on the middle Danube. The Peace Monument stands on the hill today.
