Shooting the silent film named Thief and the detective. After a year, on January 15th and 16th, 1917, the Novi Sad cinema Korzo announced a new premiere: "Today and tomorrow we are showing our movie Thief and the detective" Citizens eagerly waited that day to see a movie taken in their city, so all tickets were sold out for both days. The film has achieved great success. (Zoran Knežev, chronicler and publicist)
About this place
The spine of the old town, running from Liberty Square to the Bishop's Palace. It has been renamed more often than any other street in Novi Sad. It began as the Glavna ulica, the Hauptgasse, was called Magazinski sokak for a period after an uprising, and became Fo utca under the Hungarian administration after 1867 and then Kossuth Lajos utca in the last decades of Austro-Hungarian rule. Between the wars it was Kralja Petra I; it was renamed for Mussolini under the wartime occupation; after the liberation it was Kralja Petra I again, then Marsala Tita, before settling on Zmaj Jovina for the poet Jovan Jovanović Zmaj. The oldest house on it is number 28, Kod belog lava, built in 1720 and among the first two-storey houses in the town. It is pedestrian today, lined with shops, bookshops and cafes. One caution for anyone dating a picture by its caption: the Kossuth name did not stay attached to this street. Miletićeva, the old Lebarski sokak, carried it during the Hungarian occupation of 1941 to 1944, so a Kossuth street postcard has to be dated before it can be placed.
