The Camellia House no longer stands. It was a garden pavilion in the landscaped park that surrounded the Karacsonyi castle at Sremska Kamenica, and the park has not survived it. Its front carries the name CAMELLIA HAUS in raised letters above three arched openings, with a slender turret at each corner, and figures are sitting on the grass of the slope below.
About this place
A settlement on the Fruska Gora side of the Danube, upstream of Petrovaradin and now part of Novi Sad. Cards sell it as Luftkurort Kamenitz, an air resort, and it was reached from the town by steamer. The imperial and royal infantry cadet school stood here, and the Serbian Orthodox church appears on cards captioned Kamenica in Serbian, Kamanc in Hungarian and Kamenitz in German.
On the card
CAMELIA HAUS
Camellia House, cut into the frieze above the arched entrance, in German.
