A Floating Mill Moored on a Quiet Reach of the Danube
A floating mill lies moored in a quiet reach of the Danube, its gabled boarded roof running the length of the hull and its undershot wheel set in the gap between the mill and a second boat lashed alongside. Two men in white shirts stand on the deck of the outer boat beside the wheel frame. Beyond them a low sandy bank carries thatched cottages under trees, with small boats drawn up on the sand, figures at the water's edge and wooded hills rising behind.
