The estate caught half built, finished slab blocks at the centre of the site with brickwork and panels still going up around them and the outer streets no more than foundations. Ploughed fields still run to the edge of the works.

Novo naselje is a large housing district on the western side of Novi Sad, laid out along the road toward Futog and Bačka Palanka. The idea for it appears in the revision of the city's urban plan in 1963, and the heaviest building came between 1977 and 1980, when 4,250 flats went up together with the roads and services to serve them. The city renamed the district Bistrica in 1992, after a medieval Serbian settlement recorded on 16th and 17th century maps by Lazarus and Mercator whose exact site is not known, but residents have kept using the older name. Around 37,000 people lived there as of 2016, in two local communities, Bistrica to the north and Gavrilo Princip to the south.
