The Administrative Palace Tower, Close Up Among Trees, 1944
A close street-level view of the Administrative Palace's tall, vertically ribbed tower, its stepped Art Deco crown filling the sky above the surrounding trees. A single ornamental street lamp stands in the foreground, with the building's long colonnaded wing extending away to the right.
About this place
The Banovina complex was built between 1936 and 1939 to a modernist design by architect Dragiša Brašovan, as the administrative seat of the Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The main palace, clad in white marble from the island of Brač, runs 180 metres long with a 42-metre tower; the adjoining Banski dvor holds the ceremonial halls. Today the complex houses the Government and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and is protected as a cultural monument.
