An American Bomber Over the Danube Near Novi Sad, 1944
An American heavy bomber, a white star marking on its tail and a propeller blurred in motion, fills the upper half of the frame as it flies above a bend of the Danube. Below, smoke rises in two bursts near the riverbank where bombs have struck, patches of cloud drifting between the aircraft and the ground. Part of the photographing plane's own structure shows as a dark shape at lower left. The caption reads Backa seen from the bombers, with Novi Sad covered in white smoke, and gives the year as 1944.
