A man and a boy with a young horse outside the town
A cabinet photograph mounted on card with a printed border. A dark young horse stands in profile on open trodden ground, wearing a light head collar, its near foreleg advanced. A boy in a pale jacket and waistcoat, breeches and a soft cap holds the lead close under the horse's jaw with one hand and rests the other at his side. Beside him a man in a dark three piece suit and a bowler hat stands square to the camera with a shepherd's crook or long walking stick held upright, one hand in his pocket. Behind them rough pasture runs back to a line of willows and scattered trees, with what appear to be grazing animals in the middle distance and a low wooded ridge closing the horizon. A photographer's imprint is set vertically in an ornamental panel down the right hand edge of the mount.
