Behind the counter of a tobacco and stationery shop
The inside of a small shop, photographed across its counter. A woman in a short sleeved patterned dress and a man in a light jacket and tie lean together on the counter top, both looking at the camera, she with her forearms crossed before her. Behind them the back wall is fitted floor to ceiling with open shelving stacked with cigarette and tobacco packets, cartons and boxes in ranks, and a till stands at the end of the counter. The side walls are covered with printed advertising: enamel and card signs for soap, cigarette papers and other goods in Cyrillic and Latin, a large round advertisement with a child's face at the lower left, and a framed portrait photograph of a uniformed man wearing a sash and decorations hangs high on the left wall among them. The counter front carries further pasted advertisements, and a second counter and a glazed door stand at the right.
