The building newly finished, the saplings along the kerb only just planted and the ground around them still raw. The caption is printed twice, in Cyrillic and in Latin with no Hungarian, which places the card in the Yugoslav years after 1918.
About this place
The building on this postcard is captioned in both Cyrillic and Latin as the palace of the Chamber of Trade, Industry and Crafts in Novi Sad, the body representing the region's merchants, manufacturers and craftsmen. It is a modernist block of three storeys, plainly walled and almost without ornament, with a tall entrance tower carrying a carved roundel and a heavy cantilevered canopy over a door reached by a broad flight of steps. The saplings newly planted along the pavement place the view in the 1930s, not long after the building went up. The architect and the exact year of construction could not be established from the sources consulted.
