The caption is Serbian in both scripts with no Hungarian, and the street is named for Alexander as king, a title he took only in 1921, so the card cannot be earlier than that. An electric tram stands in the street among pedestrians, with two church spires rising over the rooftops ahead.
About this place
The street running off Liberty Square, named for King Alexander I of Yugoslavia and carrying the name still. Both of the archive’s cards look along it toward the spire of the Name of Mary Church, with the tram in the roadway and shop awnings down the left side. Under the occupation of 1941 to 1944 the street carried Adolf Hitler’s name, and the archive’s wartime photograph of it is filed here under that period.
