Novi Sad Details: a Boulevard, City Hall and the Banovina Palace
Four views of Ujvidek: a wide boulevard lined with modern five and six story apartment and shop buildings with the Cathedral's spire visible far down the street, City Hall and the Holy Trinity column with trams in the square, the curved Banovina Palace with its ribbed tower, and the Cathedral seen close up. The Banovina Palace is shown complete, which was finished in 1939.
About this place
The Banovina complex was built between 1936 and 1939 to a modernist design by architect Dragiša Brašovan, as the administrative seat of the Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The main palace, clad in white marble from the island of Brač, runs 180 metres long with a 42-metre tower; the adjoining Banski dvor holds the ceremonial halls. Today the complex houses the Government and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and is protected as a cultural monument.
