The back elevation of the Banovina, the seat of the Danube Banate, seen across open ground. Dragisa Brasovan's design steps the mass back in long horizontal bands of window, with the tower rising clear of the lower wings.
About this place
The Banovina complex was built between 1936 and 1939 to a modernist design by architect Dragiša Brašovan, as the administrative seat of the Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The main palace, clad in white marble from the island of Brač, runs 180 metres long with a 42-metre tower; the adjoining Banski dvor holds the ceremonial halls. Today the complex houses the Government and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and is protected as a cultural monument.
