The Orient was a three storey corner hotel in Grbavica, then the southern edge of Novi Sad. Its name was painted across the shaped gable in two languages at once, Hotel Orient and Orient szálló, with shops along the ground floor and tram wires strung across the street in front. Grbavica made sense for a hotel: the town's first railway station of 1882 stood on its southern boundary, where the Liman market is today, and travellers arrived there until the line was moved north and the old station pulled down. Another postcard in this archive, captioned Petőfi-utca, shows the same corner from further down the street, so the hotel stood on what was then Petőfi street; the catalogue identifies that street with the present Ulica Lasla Gala and records that a Hungarian restaurant, the Piros csizma, later occupied the site.
