The Hungarian Steamer Station, Novi Sad
The paddle steamer moored at the floating dock is named Imre, lettered on its bow beside the initials M.F.T.R., the Hungarian River and Sea Shipping Company, with a rowing boat tied alongside and a long gangway leading to shore. Petrovaradin Fortress's ramparts run along the hilltop across the river. The heading, Magyar hajó állomás, Ungarische Schiffstation, names the berth as the Hungarian ship station.

About this place
The Novi Sad bank of the Danube, the embankment walk between the bridges. It is where the town meets its river: steamers tied up along it, the ferry and later the pontoon crossing landed on it, and it is the vantage point for most photographs looking across to the Petrovaradin cliff. Today the embankment carries more than one name along its length, Beogradski kej and Kej zrtava racije among them, and this entry holds the general name for the whole walk.
