The Ban's Palace on its boulevard, a long colonnaded modernist building with a tower at its centre, a curved corner block with sculptural relief on the left. Captioned 'Ujvidek, a volt bani hivatal palotaja' (Novi Sad, the palace of the former Ban's office), the word former marking the Yugoslav provincial government's office after Hungarian administration replaced it in 1941.
About this place
The Banovina complex was built between 1936 and 1939 to a modernist design by architect Dragiša Brašovan, as the administrative seat of the Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The main palace, clad in white marble from the island of Brač, runs 180 metres long with a 42-metre tower; the adjoining Banski dvor holds the ceremonial halls. Today the complex houses the Government and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and is protected as a cultural monument.
