The civic shooting hall of Újvidék stands behind its landscaped garden, where young staked trees, café tables and a long roofed timber walk fill the foreground; a white bust on a pedestal watches from the left, and a man stands among the saplings. The card names the site in Hungarian and German, Lövölde and Schiesstätte, over the twin town names Ujvidék and Neusatz, and carries the imprint of the Újvidék publisher Ignácz Urbán up its left margin. Its date rests on the building itself, completed in 1890, and on another example of the same printed view catalogued as 1899, which places the photograph in that decade.

About this place
Built in 1890 for the centenary of the civic shooting society of Újvidék, founded in 1790, to an eclectic design by György Molnár, with a landscaped pleasure garden on the grounds beside today's Futoški park. The hall still stands and is known today as Eđšeg, from the Hungarian egység (unity), in use as a cultural centre.
