Futtaki Street on a Divided Postcard, the Spire Distant, 1900
The photograph is paired on the same side with a printed correspondence panel, where a hand has added the date 13 VI 1900 beside the printed Ujvidek, Neusatz heading and signed off, apparently as Lowenberg. The publisher's imprint, Breuer Viktor kiadasa, Ujvidek, runs down the left edge. The street is empty of any parked traffic, lined by a large balconied building at right, and closes on the church spire in the distance.

About this place
Futoška street is the old road running west out of Novi Sad toward Futog, the settlement some 7 km away that Hungarian sources call Futak and German ones Alt-Futok. It was once a single long street reaching from the town centre out to the Futog road, and its inner end became Jevrejska street when the boulevard now called Bulevar Mihajla Pupina was cut through; in the 1930s the whole length, Jevrejska included, was renamed for King Peter II. The building at Futoška 17, put up in 1912 as a Hungarian gymnasium, still stands and houses the Mihajlo Pupin electrical engineering school. The Futoška market on the street remains one of the busiest in the city.
