A coloured postcard view of the sanctuary of the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Church of Saint George after its major reconstruction of 1902–1905. The newly installed gilded iconostasis fills the eastern end of the church, with its carved architectural framework, rows of icons and Royal Doors beneath the decorated vault. The icons were painted by Paja Jovanović as part of the cathedral's comprehensive renewal under Bishop Mitrofan Šević. The carved iconostasis structure was produced by the Budapest workshop Rétay and Benedek, while Stevan Aleksić painted the wall compositions and Imre Zseler's Budapest workshop produced stained glass associated with Jovanović's designs. The postcard therefore cannot predate 1905, when the renewed interior was completed.

About this place
The Serbian Orthodox cathedral church of Saint George, rebuilt between 1902 and 1905 under Bishop Mitrofan Šević. The renewal replaced Jovan Klajić's earlier iconostasis: the carved framework was made by the Retay and Benedek workshop in Budapest, Paja Jovanović painted the iconostasis icons, Stevan Aleksić the wall compositions, and Imre Zseler's Budapest workshop the stained glass associated with Jovanović's designs. The card of the interior held here therefore cannot predate 1905, and the completed iconostasis is what dates it. Sources differ on how many icons Jovanović painted, commonly either 26 on the iconostasis with further throne and historical compositions, or 33 in broader counts, so no total is asserted.
