1896–1918Lords' Street
The Hungarian State Civic and Higher Commercial School
A raised view down a tree-lined street, with the school on the left: a tall building with a rusticated, arched ground floor and carved window frames, beyond a low house with arched windows and a shop door. A carriage stands in the roadway, a few people walk below a heavily rusticated building on the right, and hills show faintly at the far end. A letter in Hungarian runs round the margins and across the sky: the writer rejects a rumour as a worthless fabrication, says he too has left that disgraceful nest of gossip and is now in Novi Sad, and has written Ez a mi intézetünk, this is our institute, across the school's bare end wall. The caption names the Hungarian state civic and higher commercial school, and the card was published by the court photographer Josef Singer.
