A crowd aboard an M.F.T.R. steamer at the Novi Sad harbour
Men, women and children are gathered along the rail of a steamer, looking down towards the freight below, where crates, barrels and covered cargo are stacked. The monogram M.F.T.R. on the funnel identifies the operator as the Magyar Folyam- és Tengerhajózási Részvénytársaság, the Hungarian River and Sea Shipping Company, which ran passenger and freight navigation on the Danube. No ship's name is legible, and nothing fixed in the frame, no building and no stretch of bank, shows which berth of the harbour this is.
