The City Theatre, Clergy Gathered at Its Steps, Novi Sad
A hand-tinted postcard shows the Baroque Revival city theater with its green dome, a small formal gathering including clergy in white vestments assembled at the entrance steps. A horse-drawn carriage stands at the curb to the left of the building.
About this place
The Dunđerski Theatre, built between 1892 and 1895 to plans by Vladimir Nikolić and squeezed into the courtyard of the Hotel Elisabeth, later the Queen Mary and today the Vojvodina. It held about 600 people and burned down on 23 January 1928. It is not the Serbian National Theatre, which stands today on the ground where Jewish Street ran.
