A print with no caption, imprint or annotation of any kind. It was made out of doors rather than in a studio: the sitter stands in an open doorway on a balcony, louvred shutters folded back beside him and a length of cast iron scrollwork railing, with a house and trees across the way. He wears a light tweed three-piece with a high soft collar and a knotted tie, hands in his jacket pockets. The print has been hard used, creased right across the middle and with a large piece torn away from its lower edge.
About this place
The house at Kisacka 20, the Novi Sad home of the Maric family and of Mileva Maric, the physicist who studied at the Zurich Polytechnic and married Albert Einstein. A memorial plate to the two of them stands a few doors away. The photographs gathered here are of the couple and their family rather than of the building; they are filed to this address because it is the place in Novi Sad that belongs to them.
