The Administrative Palace, the Merchant Youths' Home Beyond, 1943
An elevated view takes in the tower and curved colonnaded wing together, with the rounded, statue-topped Merchant Youths' Home recognisable further down the avenue at far left, which confirms that the two buildings stand on the same stretch of street. The heading reads Ujvidek, Kozigazgatasi palota.
About this place
The Banovina complex was built between 1936 and 1939 to a modernist design by architect Dragiša Brašovan, as the administrative seat of the Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The main palace, clad in white marble from the island of Brač, runs 180 metres long with a 42-metre tower; the adjoining Banski dvor holds the ceremonial halls. Today the complex houses the Government and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and is protected as a cultural monument.
