# Red Cross Building

Also called: Zgrada Doma Crvenog krsta, Vöröskereszt háza, Rotkreuzhaus.

The Red Cross Home, a modernist corner block standing on the boulevard beside Danube Park at the corner with Pionirska Street. Đorđe Tabaković and Lazar Dunđerski signed a first design in June 1929, but the substantially revised design carried out on site was signed by Tabaković alone in October 1930, and the building went up between 1930 and 1932. It put shops at street level under flats and the offices of the Red Cross, and two large heraldic red cross emblems were set high on both street fronts. The building was altered in 1960: the separate mansard openings were joined into continuous rows on both fronts and the two emblems were taken down. A photograph showing the emblems in place and the attic windows still separate is therefore necessarily earlier than that year, which is the firmest dating evidence the building offers. The boulevard carried the name of Queen Maria when the block was new and is Bulevar Mihajla Pupina today. Part of the interior later became offices of the chamber of health institutions. The pin is the midpoint of the OpenStreetMap address points for Pionirska 12 and Bulevar Mihajla Pupina 21, the two street numbers of the same corner building.
