# Pašićeva Street

Also called: Pašićeva ulica, Pašić utca, Pašić-Gasse.

Pašićeva street leaves Zmaj Jovina street at the Bishop's Palace, by the Orthodox cathedral of Saint George, and runs to Trg Marije Trandafil, which begins as its continuation. It was first recorded on the town plan of 1745 as Velka čaršija, the great bazaar, and it lay on the road north to Temerin and on to Szeged, Budapest and Vienna. It took the name Ćurčijska, Furrier Street, from the furriers, ćurčije, who kept many shops in it; in Hungarian it was Szűcs utca and in German Kürschnergasse. It was one of several streets of the old town named for the trade carried on in them. In 1918 it was renamed for Nikola Pašić. During the Second World War it was Jókai Mór utca and after the war Svetozara Markovića; in the 1990s it was divided into two parts, and since the start of this century the whole street has again carried Pašić's name. Tram line one ran through it from 1911 to 1958. This archive's card of the 1930s looks south along it to the cathedral's bell tower.
