# New Post Office Building

Also called: Nova glavna pošta, Új postapalota, Neues Postgebäude.

The main post office of Novi Sad since the early 1960s, and the last of the three buildings Dragiša Brašovan designed in the city. It was built between 1958 and 1962 beside the older post office: a stereometric block of thirteen above ground storeys faced in white marble, among the first high buildings in Novi Sad, flanked by two lower wings set in a shallow arc. It governed the skyline of the centre for decades. Đorđe Tabaković designed the entrance, the stair and the black marble lining of the reception hall as a contrast to the white front. The tower stands at the corner of Bulevar Mihajla Pupina and Ulica narodnih heroja, and when it went up it was joined physically to the older building at Narodnih heroja 2, the former Hotel Central, which had served the post since 1899, forming a further courtyard between them. With the Workers' Chamber of 1930 to 1931 and the Banovina complex of the later 1930s it completes what is known as the Novi Sad trilogy, three towers by one architect in which his work can be followed from expressionist detail through interwar modernism into the postwar years. A caution for anyone placing a photograph here: the tower is a different building from the older post office it adjoins, the former Hotel Central, which was the Royal Hungarian Post Palace of the Habsburg decades. The pin is the OpenStreetMap post office point for the joined complex at Narodnih heroja 2, at the older end of it, rather than the centre of the tower.
