# The queue outside the Main Provincial Hospital

A crowd stands packed along the front of a long single storey building with a steeply pitched tiled roof and a row of tall windows. Above its doorway a painted board reads ГЛАВНА ПОКРАЈИНСКА БОЛНИЦА beneath a wreathed emblem, and a second doorway further along stands propped open with people pressing at it. The queue runs from the entrance out across the pavement and past an open metal gate at the right. Most of the women wear headscarves and one stands in embroidered folk dress with a dark apron; the men are in flat caps, suits and working jackets. Bicycles are propped and wheeled among them, a puddle lies in the roadway at the left, a young tree in leaf overhangs the kerb, and taller houses with dormer windows rise behind the hospital.
