# Train in Strossmayer Street

Taken looking straight down from the fortress, so the whole length of the street shows at once, with a steam locomotive and its goods train running between the house fronts and no more than a pavement's width clear on either side. Long stacks of sleepers and rail are laid out along the roadway beside the track. The railway ran here from 1941 and its smoke is what blackened these fronts; the line came up in 1961, and beyond the roofs the lattice truss bridge crosses the Danube.
