# The Vatikan palace on the Catholic churchyard

The Vatikan palace, as Novi Sad knows this large corner block on the Catholic churchyard, seen across a planted square. Its rounded corner carries stacked balconies with stone balustrades on every floor and rises to a small turret, where a flag flies above the roofline. The long wings run away on either side, their upper floors set with pilasters, balconies on carved brackets and garland panels between the windows. Shops fill the ground floor behind round-headed openings, with a deep arched entrance in the right wing. Clipped trees line the pavement, and a formal bed of low shrubs and flowers lies in the lawn in front, where a man sits on the low hedge.
