# Novi Sad Under Aerial Bombardment, 1944

Photographed from inside a bomber, part of the aircraft's structure visible at the upper left corner of the frame. Below, the Danube curves past a riverside city, with two columns of smoke rising from within the built-up area. Narrow strip-farmed fields and river islands surround the town. The caption identifies the subject as the bombing of the city, in 1944. A print of the same photograph in the US National Archives dates it to 18 September 1944, when American bombers attacked the railway bridge at Novi Sad.
