# Five-kreuzer stamp with a Pétervárad postmark, 1891

A 5 kreuzer of the Hungarian numeral design, in rose with the value on an envelope under the Holy Crown, cancelled in 1891 with the datestamp of PÉTERVÁRAD, the Hungarian name of Petrovaradin. Five kreuzer paid an ordinary inland letter. The fortress town had passed to the Hungarian post on 1 January 1871, while it still belonged to the Military Frontier, and its post office stayed Hungarian when the Frontier was joined to Croatia-Slavonia on 1 August 1881.
