# Three young men on the bank below the fortress

A wide view across the Danube from a bare earth bank. Three young men in dark three piece suits and hats stand together at the water's edge in the right of the frame, one with a hand on a companion's shoulder, one with a hand on his hip and a cane or umbrella held down at his side, all three looking at the camera. Behind them the river runs pale and flat. A long low bridge crosses it from the left, carried on trestles at the near end and rising into shallow lattice arches further out, with a small structure standing on it partway across. Beyond the far bank a line of trees runs along a low embankment, and behind that the wooded slope of Petrovaradin rises with buildings along its crest. The whole lower half of the picture is empty foreshore.
