# Beogradska Street toward the Belgrade Gate, a horse cart at the arch

Rows of mostly one-storey houses under tiled roofs line both sides of the street, with shop awnings, pedestrians and a horse-drawn carriage, and the large masonry arch of the Belgrade Gate closes the view at the far end. This is Petrovaradin's Hauptgasse, the principal street of the Lower Fortress and Suburbium, today's Beogradska Street: historical descriptions identify the former Haupt Gasse with Beogradska and describe it as the route between the Danube or Novi Sad Gate at the western end, which no longer survives, and the Belgrade Gate at the eastern end. The printed German caption reads Peterwardein, Hauptgasse, and the vertical imprint names the publisher as Ignácz Urbán of Neusatz.
