# A silver medal for the relief of Petrovaradin, 1694

A silver medal struck in Nuremberg for the allies' victories of 1694, signed P H M by the medallist Philipp Heinrich Müller. On the obverse a troop of helmeted children carries the standards of the Christian allies beneath a banner bearing the Chi-Rho and treads the fallen flags of France and the Ottomans underfoot. On the reverse a winged Victory with a laurel branch and a palm stands among the river gods of the Danube, the Meuse and the Rhine, and the legend names the year's three successes: Petrovaradin relieved, Huy retaken and the Rhine crossed. The first is the Ottoman siege of the fortress and its entrenched imperial camp that autumn, abandoned in early October 1694.
