# Chapel of St John of Nepomuk at Mostobran

A small Baroque chapel stands on bare churned ground above the water, its onion domed bell tower carrying a cross, with a long walled range and a lean-to shed running away to the right and cut blocks of masonry lying loose across the foreground. The steel spans of a truss bridge cross the view on the left. This is the Roman Catholic chapel of St John of Nepomuk, patron of boatmen, which stood inside Mostobran, the Danube bridgehead fortification also known as Brukšanac, from the middle of the 18th century. The cleared ground and the loose masonry are the fortification coming down around it as the city pushed toward the river. The chapel followed in 1928, demolished for the approaches to the Prince Tomislav Bridge, whose ironwork is the bridge in the picture.
