# The Fortress of Peterwardein, by Jakob Alt

A lithograph of Petrovaradin Fortress from the shore directly beneath the rock, the Upper Town barracks and the clock tower along the plateau and the lower town with a church spire below to the left. Barefoot women carry water jars and pails on shoulder yokes at the water line, a man in a broad-brimmed hat stands by a child seated on a felled trunk, and a beached barge and a narrow punt lie beside stacked squared timber. The sheet belongs to Adolph Kunike's series of Danube views, drawn by the Viennese painter Jakob Alt and printed at Vienna in 1826.
