# Main Street at the Epiphany Cross

A drawing reproduced as a halftone rather than a photograph, looking along the former Main Street, today Zmaj Jovina, at its corner with Miletićeva. The Epiphany Cross stands in the roadway on the right on a stepped base, a tower behind it carrying a clock under a domed cap. The pink marble cross is the oldest surviving public monument in the city: damaged in the bombardment of 1849, restored by Marija Trandafil in 1867, and moved from this corner in 1910 to clear the way for the tram tracks. There are no rails in the road and no wires overhead, which puts the view before that. Low hills close the far end of the street beyond the houses.
